English/Spanish Interpreter and Translator Freelance

2008 - present

 Legal interpreting: Since acquiring license in Dec. 2009, provision of interpreting services in area courts
including on the record simultaneous or consecutive in-person interpreting in civil and criminal proceedings.
Experience includes: working with defendants in jury trials, witness testimony, depositions, child support
negotiations and a variety of other criminal and civil hearings; sight translation of legal or evidentiary
documents; translation of legal documents and transcription and translation of audio and video recordings
as requested. Courts include City, County and District courts in 7 different counties in Central Texas
including Bell, Williamson and Travis counties.
 Medical translation: Since 2012, ongoing contract translation work with Legal Language Services, Inc. an
agency based in New York providing translation from Spanish to English of a wide variety of medical records,
including psychiatric notes, surgical records, nursing, physical therapy and rehabilitation forms, medication
descriptions, etc.
 Academic translation: Since 2013, ongoing contract translation work with the same agency providing
translation from Spanish to English of academic transcripts, diplomas and other educational records.
 Educational interpreting: From 2008 to 2012, provision of in-person interpreting for the Special Education
Department of the Temple Independent School District, Temple, Texas. Services included interpreting for
Spanish speaking parents at meetings or simultaneous interpreting of meetings into a recorder.
 Book translations: Multiple books and manuals on diverse topics, including a book about parenting an
autistic child and a series of manuals on parenting for a counseling ministry and healthcare education
presentations for a non-profit healthcare provider.

2009 - 2012

 Facilitated on-ground in-person courses in a various subjects including: Media and Culture, History, Religion
and Humanities. Each course was conducted online with weekly in-person seminar-style classes.

Advisor / Volunteer International Development program Texas and Guatemala

1999 - present

 In 1999 I moved to Guatemala for one year to work as a volunteer at UPAVIM, a women’s cooperative in
Guatemala City. Over the past 20 years I have continued to work with UPAVIM and other organizations in
different roles to promote development for marginalized communities in Guatemala. This included working
on staff from 2005 to 2007 as a general program advisor at UPAVIM in Guatemala City, which produces fair
trade handicrafts and provides social services in their community.
 Throughout this work I have often filled the role of interpreter/translator: leading delegations of foreigners;
welcoming visiting groups and working with foreign doctors on medical trips; document translations
including communication between donors and recipients or buyers and sellers, as well as news reports,
fund raising and other kinds of documents.
 Since 2004, I have been a volunteer Board Member with the UPAVIM Community Development Foundation,
a 501(c)3 non-profit that supports UPAVIM and other organizations in Guatemala.
